Chobe Safari & Victoria Falls

Welcome to your

Chobe Safari & Victoria Falls Holiday (4 nights)

The awe-inspiring Victoria Falls and the wildlife-rich Chobe Riverfront – this is a short but very rewarding Southern African holiday. Begin your journey at Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, where you’ll see the thundering cascades and misty rainbows of the falls and understand why they call it “the smoke that thunders.” From there, travel to the Chobe Riverfront in Botswana, renowned for its dense concentration of wildlife along the riverbanks. Here, you’ll embark on game drives and boat safaris, witnessing herds of elephants, hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of birdlife in their natural habitat along the Chobe River.

Frequently Asked Questions
August to January. From February to July, the falls’ water flow drops dramatically, sometimes revealing dry rock faces on the Zambian side. Peak flow (April-May) creates spectacular views but limits visibility due to constant spray and rainbows. Reality check: The “smoke that thunders” description only applies during high-water months. One overlooked fact: The Zimbabwean side offers 85% of the viewing platforms – this itinerary’s location at The Palm River Hotel provides better access than Zambian-side hotels.
Chobe’s riverfront has the highest elephant concentration in Africa – 100,000+ in dry season. But it’s a one-trick pony: exceptional elephant and buffalo viewing, mediocre for predators. Weak spot: Chobe National Park’s interior (Savuti, Linyanti) has better lion/leopard sightings, but this itinerary only accesses the crowded riverfront area. Hard truth: If Big Five sightings are your priority, this 2-night stop won’t deliver like Kruger or private reserves. One useful fact: Chobe’s afternoon boat safaris offer the continent’s most reliable hippo/croc viewing – you’ll see dozens on a single cruise.
More than most lodges: All meals (including bush dinners), all drinks (premium spirits included), twice-daily game activities (alternating drives and boats), park fees, and emergency medical evacuation insurance. What’s excluded: Spa treatments, private vehicle requests, and gratuities (budget R500-700/day). One overlooked detail: The lodge’s generator runs 24/7 for air conditioning – crucial in Chobe’s extreme heat
Only for older children (12+). Younger kids won’t appreciate the intensity of a short-trip packed with border crossings and early wake-ups. Chobe Game Lodge accepts children of all ages but doesn’t offer child-specific programs. Weak spot: The Victoria Falls rainforest walk involves slippery paths and steep drop-offs – dangerous for unsupervised children. One useful exception: Families with teens interested in photography will love the guaranteed elephant herds and dramatic falls scenery.
Extending the Chobe portion. Smart clients add 1-2 nights at Chobe and cut Victoria Falls to 1 night if time/budget is fixed. Adding a third night at Chobe costs less than USD $600pp but doubles your effective wildlife viewing time.
